About
Purpose & Need
The purpose of the Project is to expand high-quality transit from University of Buffalo (UB) South Campus through UB North Campus and I-990, connecting current and emerging activity centers along the way. High-quality transit means a fast, reliable, safe, and convenient transit mobility option. The Project would serve existing Metro riders, attract new transit patrons, improve regional connections between Buffalo, Amherst, and Tonawanda, and support redevelopment and other economic development opportunities. Additionally, the Project would improve livability by increasing mobility and accessibility in communities throughout the region.
Building this enhanced, equitable, and sustainable transit service meets three important needs: (1) serve existing and future travel demand generated by regional development; (2) provide high-quality regional transit service; and (3) better serve transit-dependent populations, those most in need of transportation support.
